Council and church join forces to install flagpole
Wednesday, 3rd October 2012.
There is a flag flying permanently on St Mary's Church in Haverhill for the first time in about 40 years.
Building on the success and popularity of the flag display in Haverhill High Street this summer, St Marys Church Haverhill and Haverhill Town Council have joined forces to reinstate a flagpole on the church, some 40 years after a flag was last seen flying over the building.
The pole was erected on Monday evening, and a formal flag-raising ceremony is to be arranged.
Meanwhile, St Edmundsbury Borough Council's Haverhill Area Working Party has asked for a flagpole in the market squere to be considered as part of the proposed scheme to improve the town centre, as a result of a suggestion from Cllr Gordon Cox.
