Cooking up a Red Nose treat
Thursday, 22nd March 2001.
TWO pupils at the Samuel Ward Upper School were ready, steady, cooking in aid of Comic Relief.
Year 11 students James Shepstone and Simon Driver donned their aprons and cooked different dishes with the ingredients their "celebrity" guests Howard Lay, headteacher and Jackie Walters, head of sixth form bought for £5.
As with the television programme, the chefs were only given 20 minutes to prepare and cook their mini-masterpieces, so the event fitted nicely into the lunch break.
Other pupils paid money to see the mayhem, and all the money collected is going towards Comic Relief.
The school also held a Weakest Link-style competition which raised £60. Ann Robinson was played by the new deputy head, Catherine Tooze, who, like the TV personality, has red hair.
