Conference brings racism under microscope
By Martin Chapman on Wednesday, 21st November 2001.
ANTI-RACISM comes under the microscope on Friday as pupils at Castle Manor take part in a one day Mingle conference.
The event, now in it’s third year will cover racism experience by Gypsies, the plight of those seeking Asylum, and what schools and young people can do to tackle the issue.
Local actor, Michael Clarke will provide a thought provoking re-enactment of what it’s like to be a victim of racist attack.
Bryony Rudkin, of Suffolk County Council said: “Events such as Mingle that aim to raise awareness, and to educate and encourage people to discuss racism are a very positive way of tackling the issue.”
Two other schools are taking part in the Mingle conference this year, they include Haverhill’s Samuel Ward and King Edwards VI Upper School in Bury St Edmunds.
