Comparison between sport and business lined up
Wednesday, 11th July 2012.
There's a strong Olympic theme at this month's business networking meeting hosted by thebestofhaverhill.
The meeting, on Thursday, July 19, will have as its guest speaker Daniel Bentley, boccia team Paralympic gold medallist Beijing 2008 and member of the London 2012 boccia team.
Boccia, which is similar to Bowls, has been a paralympic sport since 1984 and is for athletes with severe disabilities such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.
Daniel will give an insight into his sport, which he has been playing for the last eleven years, and explain what it is like to compete at the Paralympic Games.
There will also be a short demonstration of Boccia enabling guests to see firsthand what the sport involves.
Elaine Carr, owner of thebestofhaverhill, said: “We are thrilled to have Daniel as our speaker in the run-up to London 2012. I am looking forward to learning more about boccia - from what I have read it requires a combination of nerve, tactics and skill.
"Judgement and concentration are vital to success and the game can be won or lost on the smallest of measurements – there are some parallels with being in business I think!
"Daniel has strong connections with Haverhill. He trains at Haverhill Leisure Centre and his mother, Sandra Imrie, lives in the town and is an active member of the business community.
"I hope that local businesses will join us for what I am sure will be an inspiring meeting.”
