Community picnic aims to bring families together
Friday, 20th May 2011.
To celebrate National Family Week a free community picnic, full of family fun, is being held from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, June 1, at Chalkstone Community Centre.
The event is being held during half term and families of all ages are being invited to bring along a picnic and join in the entertainment and sports.
There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities and Scalectrix, as well as football, rounders, Try Golf and a tug-of-war. Over 300 people attended the first event in 2010 and the feedback was very positive.
The average family spends just 45 minutes a day together, according to a poll commissioned last year by National Family Week, and the picnic aims to inspire local people to come and have fun together.
The event is being organised by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and supported by Chalkstone residents association CATRA, Haverhill Town Council, Abbeycroft Leisure, Havebury Housing, Carousel Children’s Centre, Artheads and the police safer neighbourhood team.
Tesco will be providing a fresh fruit smoothie taster session for the children on the day and the fire service will also be attending.
