Committee member quits show
Thursday, 12th July 2001.
A HAVERHILL Show Committee member has resigned, after claiming he was threatened by some people at the show's car boot sale.
Barney Hammond said he was threatened at the sale on Sunday, which was part of the annual Town Show, after people turned up several hours early and refused to move. Town regulations prohibit the setting up of car boot sales before 9am.
Mr Hammond said:"A minority of people were getting angry and unreason-able about ignoring the council by laws. A minority again criticised that there was no parking, although signs were placed for alternative parking.
"I think it is time the people who can criticise the show should come and try to run it."
All the money raised at Sunday's show goes to LAMPH, the local group for adults and children with disabilities.
Mr Hammond thanked everyone who had helped him past 16 years but said that, after Sunday's incident and other criticisms, he had had enough.
