Clare Mourns Crash Victims
Wednesday, 8th November 2006.
The community of Clare was deeply shocked and saddened this week by the deaths of two of its young men, killed in a tragic road accident on the edge of town.
Charles Bevan, 20 and Matthew Sheridan, 22 were killed when the car they were travelling in, a Nissan Convertible, left the road and crashed into a front garden and house near Clare Fishery on the A1092. The accident occurred on Friday evening [3/11/06] at 9.15pm; no other vehicles were involved.
The devastated families of the two young men issued tributes through a police spokesperson.
Matthew Sheridan’s family said: “Matthew was a wonderful son and brother, full of life and fun. His mother, brother, sister and father will miss him and will love him forever.
“The family request that their privacy be respected at this time of unimaginable grief.”
Charles Bevan’s family also described how very much he would be missed. They said: “Charlie was a kind-hearted son and brother, who enjoyed life to the full. Surfing was his love and we hope he is catching the waves in heaven.
“He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who all love him very much.”
Clare is a small market town with a close community. Both young men were very popular and widely known within the town and local area.
Rev John Rankin, Vicar of St Peter and St Paul, Clare, said: “There is a profound sadness in the two parishes. It is such a terrible thing to have happened.”
