Church floodlighting plan moves ahead
Wednesday, 25th November 2009.
Plans to floodlight Haverhill parish church have been submitted, and town councillors have formally agreed to fund part of the project.
Equipment for the floodlighting is being donated by the contractors, but there will be a balance which town clerk Gordon Mussett estimated as being no more than £10,000, which the council will fund.
The council will also have to pick up the running costs, but as LED lights are being used, the energy bill is likely to be less than £200 a year.
The lamps being provided are 'intended to be vandal-proof', Mr Mussett told town councillors at their meeting last night (Tuesday).
The project was a particular aim of town mayor Ted Trebble, who suffered a stroke and died while in office in 2007, and it is hoped his widow will take part in the official opening when it is complete.
Mr Mussett explained the south side of the tower, facing The Drabbet Smock, will have to be left dark because of the bats which live there.
