MUSICIAN Christopher Pannell has played his way to the semi finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
Following a day of exceptional musical performances at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Christopher, 18, of Dovehouse Road, Haverhill, was chosen as one of five winners in the brass section who will go on to compete in the brass semi final in February.
Christopher, who plays the tenor horn, is studying civil and structural engineering in Manchester and also plays in the nearby Hepworth Band.
He is a former pupil of Castle Hill and Castle Manor schools in Haverhill, and in 2000 was the West Suffolk Young Musician of the Year. His brother Tim was also a finalist in the competition.
"I was very pleased to get through to the semi finals, it is brilliant," Christopher said.
The semi finals take place from February 9-13 at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow.
