Christmas message from the PCC
Thursday, 17th December 2015.
Christmas time is one of my favourite times of the year as it is a chance to celebrate with friends and family and renew old acquaintances.
I really enjoy the whole Christmas experience; from decorating the house to enjoying the festive food and drink, but amid all the revelry and enjoyment there is another side to all the festivities. Sadly in society there are too many people who are homeless, hungry or lonely and have other difficulties to face such as unemployment. Christmas is also a very important opportunity for reflection and appreciation of what we have and we should remember those who are less fortunate than most of us. From a personal perspective, I enjoy the religious messages that are given at the numerous church services and carol services that take place – I believe these messages are just as relevant today as when I was a small boy many years ago!
As we get ready for Christmas, please spare some time to remember the many thousands of people who carry on working during the festive season in order that we remain safe and sound and are able to enjoy ourselves. This includes our armed services, hospitals, utility companies and, of course, all the emergency services – police, fire, ambulance and HM Coastguard. We are indebted to them for their commitment and dedication during the past twelve months and for that we are very thankful.
Looking forward to 2016 I’m sure there will be further changes and challenges for the Constabulary as we manage the financial pressures and adapt to the changing pattern of crime. As long as I am Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner I really do need the whole community to support our very dedicated workforce during this time of transformation, so we can work together and keep our county as one of the safest counties places in the country.
I wish all of you a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
