Children tackle fun and filling fundraiser
Thursday, 6th December 2001.
ONE OF the most popular sponsored events ever was held at the Cartwheels Playgroup in Haverhill this week when youngsters tucked into doughnuts to earn cash.
A total of 80 children took aged from two and a half years upwards at the after school club, polished off 130 doughnuts donated by Sainsbury’s and Larry Griffen, store manager at the Co-op.
More than £100 has already come in from the sponsored doughnut eat and it is hoped the final figure will be between £200 and £300. The cash will be used to buy new toys, especially more outdoor toys for the group, which meets at the former magistrates court building in Camps Road.
Maria Smith, a supervisor with the group, said the event had been a great, if sticky success.
“We tried to think of something interesting which most people would be able to do. The children really loved it,” Ms Smith said.
