Chief Constable takes on the ice bucket challenge
Thursday, 18th September 2014.
Suffolk Constabulary’s Chief Constable, Douglas Paxton proved he is no damp squib when he took on the Ice Bucket Challenge at the force’s annual Family Day.
Having been nominated by the Police Federation, Mr Paxton agreed to take on the challenge in front of hundreds of friends and colleagues at the Family Day which took place at Police Headquarters in Martlesham on Sunday.
Volunteer Police Cadets walked around the main arena with buckets collecting donations while Mr Paxton patiently waited for his fate in the middle of the ring.
Compere for the day, Barry Garnham from Fresh Gold Radio, began the countdown before the icy water was ceremoniously dumped over the Chief Constable’s head.
Each year Suffolk Police hold a Family Day, organised and run by volunteers for family and friends of officers (current and retired) and staff to come along to, to enjoy a fun filled day and find out a little bit more about the police service.
All proceeds from the day are donated to a local charity which this year was Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SuLSaR) who turn out in all weathers to assist the police in searching for vulnerable missing people.
The Chief Constable’s Ice Bucket Challenge alone raised a total of £183 which will be donated to SuLSaR.
It is expected that the total raised from the day will be more than £1,000.
Speaking after the day Mr Paxton said: "I’m not one to shirk my responsibilities and when nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge thought the force Family Day would be the best possible place to do it, in front of colleagues, old and new, friends and family – it also allowed us to raise a bit more money for charity."
