Charity walk aims at families and all age groups
Wednesday, 16th January 2013.
With many people vowing to lead a healthier lifestyle in 2013, St Nicholas Hospice Care is asking Haverhill residents to ‘HaverHeart’ for the hospice and sign up for a charity walk next month.
The four-mile HaverHeart walk, on February 17, is aimed at families and all age groups, with all proceeds being donated to the hospice.
The circular route starts and finishes at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre in Eringhausen Way, which, along with Herbert Retail of Rookwood Way, is sponsoring the event.
Ian Norris, St Nicholas Hospice Care Community fundraiser, said: “HaverHeart is not a race! Instead, we hope this will be a lovely walk around Haverhill, which anyone and everyone can take part in. The route is pushchair friendly, too.
“It’s not compulsory, but we really hope everyone who takes part will wear something red. Anything goes! You can wear red shoes and trews if you like, or a red hat.
"Alternatively, you could write the name of a loved one you wish to remember in a red heart – which will be supplied to all participants – and wear it on your sleeve.”
The walk starts at 11am, and the route takes in the railway line, Howe Road and East Town Park. A toilet stop will be located along the route.
Every person taking part will receive a hot cup of tea, coffee or soup at the end of the walk, along with a bacon roll (or vegetarian alternative). No dogs please.
It costs £10 per person to register or £20 for a family (two adults and up to three children).
Participants are asked to aim to raise £75 in sponsorship, but everyone taking part will be sent a red heart-shaped cookie cutter and three cookie recipes so they can make cookies to sell to raise funds.
