Chance to find out how you can benefit from the Olympics
Monday, 28th February 2011.
Haverhill businesses, schools, sports clubs and community groups have been invited to attend a workshop on how they can make the most of the opportunities that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring to Suffolk.
The free workshop held in Haverhill, will be run by Adam Baker, Suffolk County Council’s 2012 project manager, and hosted by Abbeycroft Leisure, and will outline opportunities available in business, culture, education, sports participation, volunteering and tourism.
The workshop will also showcase some of the local sports stars who hope to compete in the Games and update the community on the Games and Suffolk’s preparations for 2012.
Participants will also hear about the Go Rwanda project set up by the St Edmundsbury Olympic Steering Group, a project to encourage people in the borough to support Rwanda as their second Olympic team during London 2012 and to ensure that the legacy of the Pre-Games Training Camp stretches across St Edmundsbury far beyond 2012.
The West Suffolk Athletics Arena at Abbeycroft Leisure’s Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre has been chosen to host the Rwandan Olympic and Paralympic teams as they prepare for London 2012.
Mr Baker, who is also a member of the St Edmundsbury Olympic Steering Group, said: “Organisations need to start planning now if they, and Suffolk, are to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"I hope that everybody, whatever their background, will go away from the workshop with at least one practical thing that they can do to make the most of the Games.”
The Are You Ready for 2012? workshop takes place on Monday, March 21, at Haverhill Leisure Centre, from 5pm to 6pm.
