Chairman hands over £6,000 to charity
Friday, 21st May 2010.
The chairman of Suffolk County Council, Cllr Joanna Spicer, has presented the Alzheimer’s Society with a cheque for more than £6,000.
The total of £6,309 has been raised by council staff across the county through various activities such as craft fairs, book sales, quizzes and cakes sales.
Councillors also donated money rather than sending Christmas cards to the chairman.
Cllr Spicer said: “The sum of money raised for this worthy charity is tremendous and I’m grateful to every member of staff at the county council who donated money.”
Cllr Spicer raised more than £1,100 for the charity at the beginning of her term of officer when she took part in the Great East Swim.
The deadline has now passed for those wishing to compete this year, however, if you are still keen to take part, the Alzheimer’s Society still has a few places left for those wishing to raise money for them.
