Celebrate end of school safely, police urge

Police are reminding young people across Suffolk to keep celebrations safe as students reach the summer holidays.
The end of the school year traditionally sees students letting their hair down and celebrating. Police are urging youngsters to behave sensibly, responsibly and to consider their personal safety.
Often gatherings will take place in a public area and can sometimes involve alcohol, which can leave people in a vulnerable situation.
Supt Stuart Sedgwick said: “The most important thing to say is do not get pressurised into doing anything you’re not comfortable with. Be really clear about what you say ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to. Don’t go off on your own and don’t go off with anyone you’re not sure of.
“Remember that alcohol can alter your perception of situations and can make you more vulnerable to those who might take advantage. Stay with trusted friends and try to look after each other.”
Police would also like to remind everyone that there will be a zero-tolerance approach to under age drinking and that all alcohol will be seized if it is found in the possession of anyone who appears to be under 18.
Supt Sedgwick continued: “We are aware that students across the county are finishing school and we would like people to be able to enjoy themselves.
"However, we will not be tolerating incidents of anti-social behaviour and our officers will be looking out for minority of young people who may be causing disruption to others, and for anyone who appears to be drinking under age.
"Furthermore, we will be taking action against anyone who is found to have supplied alcoholic drinks to people who are under age.”
