Cats use another of their nine lives

By Martin Chapman on Thursday, 6th September 2001.

CHRIS Wallis hopes to use another of the Cambridge Cats nine lives later this year when he reforms the team to play in the 2002 league season.

The former Head Coach of the Cambridge Cats, is appealing for players of all ages from Cambridge and the surrounding areas to form the team.
Before the Cats will be allowed to compete in the British Senior League Chris must recruit twenty-five players that have not yet signed for team in the BSL.
Chris says he is appealing for “complete Rookies or ex-players that want to return to the sport.”

The new team, to be known as the Cats is the first stage of a major effort to reintroduce the sport back into Cambridgeshire. Their first training sessions are to be held on Sunday 30th September 2001 and Sunday 7th October 2001 between 2 and 3:30 pm at Coldhams Common, Cambridge.

Chris also plans to form a new youth team, the Pumas.

He also plans to create the Cambridgeshire Gridiron Academy to co-ordinate the development of the game at all age groups and eventually introduce a new five-a-side "Flag" version of the game for under 16s. All this follows the recent huge success of the game in other parts of the country, according to Chris Wallis.
