Cash adds Christmas Sparkle
Thursday, 15th September 1994.
Added Christmas cheer for Haverhill's Town Centre this year comes in the form of a financial boost from the Borough Council for the provision of Lights and decorations.
A £14,000 major enhancement scheme for Haverhill Town Centre has been agreed by members of the Borough Council's Transport and Works Committee. Haverhill Chamber of Commerce aim to contribute £2500 towards the cost of the scheme.
Haverhill Chamber of Commerce have received grants towards the Christmas lights from the Borough in the past but this is the first major investment of this kind has been made.
The cash will help pay for storage of existing lights, the purchase of Christmas trees and the provision of Christmas lights on Council owned property. A similar scheme in Bury St Edmunds will receive £13,000.
Councillors were told that officers felt the schemes put forward would have a significant impact on the two towns at the peak period for retail activity.
