Campaign by town council results in new safety
Thursday, 31st January 2002.
A Haverhill Town Council campaign on behalf of many pedestrians who use Reeds Lane in Haverhill has resulted in new safety moves.
The lane is used by pedestrians getting to and from the Chalkstone Estate, as well as traffic going in and out of the St Edmundsbury Borough Council depot nearby industrial units.
There is no footpath and many pedestrians have complained of near misses with lorries and cars.
Following the town council campaign on the issue, St Edmundsbury Borough Council has now agreed to paint a white line along the length of Reeds Lane, o mark out an area for pedestrians to use.
Maggie Lee, the town council chairman, welcomed the plan.
She said: “this is another example of how the town council’s campaigning, coupled with local information, can influence how and where the borough council spends its money in Haverhill.”
