Calls For More Hotels And Support For Airport Expansion
By Jo Deeks on Friday, 12th March 2004.
More than 80 per cent of people who have responded to an on-going survey are proud to be part of Haverhill's business community, think expansion of Stansted Airport will help them and would like to see more hotels in their town.
Those were some of the issues raised in the internet survey launched by Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It has called on more people to log on and fill in its on-line questionnaire.
Questions are based on issues raised at last month's 'Business at Home' meeting with councillors and officaials from St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Other findings of the survey showed that 50 per cent of respondents favoured McDonald's opening a restaurant in Haverhill's town centre and the same percentage thought the town should have a town centre manager. Almost 70 per cent supported the full pedestrianisation of the town centre and the same percentage felt Tesco would improve retail on offer in the town.
The chamber's recent launch meeting attracted around 100 people and one of its aims is to provide a voice for Haverhill business.
The chamber hopes as many people as possible will fill in the questionnaire.
The questionnaire can be found at www.haverhillchamber.co.uk/survey.shtml and does not take long to complete.
There will also be a chance to discuss these and other issues at the chamber's first executive event with Richard Spring MP. 'A vision for the Future: will be held on April 2 from 6pm to 8pm at the Woodlands Hotel.
