Businesses need to show support for superfast broadband

Local businesses in Suffolk are being urged to show their support for the Better Broadband for Suffolk campaign.
So far, 500 local businesses have signed up to the campaign but with tens of thousands of businesses in Suffolk, the county council is keen to hear from more of them.
The Ramada Encore hotel in Ipswich was one of the first businesses to join the campaign and to urge others to sign up, has offered a free two night stay to other businesses that follow suit.
Any businesses that complete the campaign’s online survey before December 25, including those that have already signed up, will immediately be entered into a Christmas prize draw to win the stay.
Melissa Neisler-Dickinson, account manager at the Ramada Encore Ipswich, said: “When we heard about Suffolk’s broadband campaign and the business survey, we immediately knew it was something we wanted to back and encourage others to do so too.
"We want Suffolk to be a place that people want to come to because it’s easy to do business here. Part of that is having broadband access which is fit for the 21st century. It only takes a moment to sign up and the more of us that do, the stronger the message we send.”
The campaign has secured the necessary public funding for the project, including up to £10m from Suffolk County Council and £11m from the Government. But it now needs to demonstrate local demand to ministers and potential suppliers.
To demonstrate demand from Suffolk businesses, Suffolk County Council is asking company owners to sign up and complete its quick and easy broadband survey.
Completing the survey doesn’t involve making a firm commitment, but it will help to show the level of demand and likely take up of superfast broadband services in Suffolk and make the county an attractive place for potential bidders to invest in.
Cllr Mark Bee, Suffolk County Council's leader, said: "We've had an excellent response to our business survey so far but we want to double it at the very least.
"I'm particularly grateful to Melissa and the Ramada Encore for backing the campaign so generously. I'd encourage all Suffolk businesses, large or small, to spend the five minutes it takes to show their support for better broadband for Suffolk."
