Bury Area Skate Jam 2007

Monday, 6th August 2007.

Flips, grinds, scratching and street art will take centre stage at a special event organised to give young people the chance to showcase their talents.

Skate Jam 2007, which takes place in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday, 19 August, is the first event of its kind in the area. It has been organised by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, with the main sponsors Hardcore Hobbies and the Rehearsal Rooms, to give young people the chance to both show off their skills and try their hand at something new.

During the packed afternoon designed to celebrate urban culture, graffiti artists will be creating new murals, DJs will be spinning discs and a professional dance tutor will be holding break dancing sessions. Meanwhile, on the ramps of the skate park itself, prizes will be given out to skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders.

The event is open to ten to 19-year-olds (and their parents) and will take place between 12 noon and 5pm. If it is successful, St Edmundsbury will look to hold another Skate Jam next year.

Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, portfolio holder for community, said:
“This afternoon of activities will give the borough’s young people an excellent opportunity to try something new and show off the talents they already have. We are delighted to be able to host this event which caters for the needs of our younger residents and combines fun with active exercise.”
