Bright future for town's peanut factory
Thursday, 23rd December 2010.
A Haverhill factory is planning a £2million expansion and has already increased its workforce in recent weeks.
Percy Dalton, the peanut factory in Phoenix Road, has added another 60 workers to its permanent 130 staff, due to the Christmas demand for nuts.
The company produces around 10,000 tons of nuts a year from the Haverhill factory.
Last year it was taken over by the Intersnack group and since then production has almost doubled from around 50,000 cases a week to close to 90,000.
They have just spent £500,000 on a new line for a major UK retailer and are looking to invest another £2million in the course of the next 12 months.
This will be invested in Haverhill to make the factory a centre of excellence.
Percy Dalton's was one of the first businesses to open on the new Haverhill Business Park in 2005, after relocating from its former base in east London.
