Bridge work set to cause delays
Thursday, 11th April 2002.
Major diversions will come into effect on Monday as work starts on a 15-week scheme to replace the Swan Lane bridge in Haverhill.
The bridge will be closed for 15 weeks while it is replaced in a £110,000 scheme, which had been due to start in February.
Nigel Burrows, project engineer for Suffolk County Council, apologised for inconvenience the work would cause, but said it was essential to replace the weakened bridge.
“A letter drop has been done of all the people affected by the diversions. We expect there will be delays at peak times of day and ask people to ‘avoid the area if possible.
“We would also ask them to stagger their travel times and allow a bit more time for their journey.”
Diversions will be in operation via Hamlet Road, Duddery Hill and Camps Road, with traffic lights in operation in Camps Road, near Peacocks car park in Swan Lane, and at the junction with the Brooks Service Road. Yellow lines wit also be used along parts of the route.
