Brandt rescues Haverhill
Thursday, 15th November 2001.
HAVERHILL clinched 1-1 draw at Halstead, but both sides also missed from the spot in an end-to-end Jewson League Division one affair.
Halstead wasted their penalty opportunity early on but went ahead on the half hour, with Mark Brandt levelling with a brave header from Paul Miles’ free kick on the stroke of half time.
Miles could have nicked all three points but he missed from the spot after Ben Cowling was judged to have been fouled.
Manager Paul Goodman said: “Neither was a penalty really, but Ben Cowling had his legs taken from him five minutes before the ref gave our penalty and he didn’t give anything.
“The game was a cracking advertisement for the league because both sides tried to keep it down and play it on the floor.
