Botty bangs pen in win
Thursday, 4th November 1999.
SOCCER: Haverhill Rovers bought all three points back from Norwich United at the weekend, with Tony Botten and Ian Spencer the goal scoring heroes.
The reds have lost just once in four games and were well worth their first Jewson League, first division, win since September 6.
Ben Cowling earned a first-half penalty for Tony Botten to convert to set them on their way and hand Rovers the internal advantage.
Ian Spencer scrambled home Anthony Downs' free kick after 75 minutes to double the advantage.
Reds had to endure a nervous last ten minutes after Norwich pulled a goal back, but held on to take the points back to Hamlet Croft.
Lee Barrett's side now have eight points from their nine games and are clawing back towards the mid-table teams after a long spell in the lower reaches.
Barrett is now in charge at the Croft following Danny Boyle's recent resignation.
