Borough Parks Receive Praise
Monday, 9th July 2007.
East Town Park in Haverhill is expecting to receive Green Flag status shortly, following on the award being given to Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds last year.
This expectation follows a report recently published to celebrate Parks Week which shows that St Edmundsbury’s parks and open spaces are among the most valued in the country.
The Park Life Report, the first ever public satisfaction survey of Britain’s parks and green spaces, found that nationally 68 percent of people who took part in their survey were either satisfied or very satisfied with their parks and spaces. Research undertaken by St Edmundsbury Borough Council in 2006/07 found that satisfaction level of borough residents was 82 percent, up 2 percent on the previous survey.
Cllr Lynsey Alexander, portfolio holder for Culture said
“Parks and open spaces contribute immeasurably to well being and the council is committed to making sure that everyone can enjoy year-round fresh air and space outside. Our parks service has won global acclaim but knowing that residents think highly of the service is even more important to us.”
