Bid to tidy up Wratting Road traffic problems
Wednesday, 14th October 2009.
Now that Tesco's new store and the associated roadworks are complete, Haverhill Town Councillors have turned their minds to fine-tuning the area to benefit motorists and pedestrians.
Issues include parking at the bottom of Wratting Road, lorry access to Tesco, banners on the footbridge and pedestrians crossing Wratting Road.
Members of Haverhill Town Council's planning committee have been told by Cllr Karen Richardson she had asked Suffolk County Council for double yellow lines on Wratting Road from the Cangle to Dovehouse Road.
Cllr Pat Hanlon wanted the parking ban extended into Dovehouse Road as well.
He also wanted the council to do something about lorries waiting on the access road to the Tesco goods inward bay. Members asked town clerk Gordon Mussett to speak to Tesco manager Adrian Jones about it.
Cllr Tim Marks reported St Edmundsbury Council were now going to take specific measures to remove banners hung on the footbridge across Wratting Road.
And Cllr Paul McManus asked the council should write to Suffolk County Council about the dangers to pedestrians from the end of The Pightle trying to cross Wratting Road.
