Battling performances by golfers in county matches

Haverhill lady golfers played their Stableford on Wednesday and Saturday, June 20 and 23. The overall winner with 35pts was Debbie Kerchiss, from second place Judy Farren with 31pts and third place Jackie Condon with 29pts.
On Saturday, Haverhill welcomed Stowmarket for the second leg of their interclub Challenge Match.
Finding themselves 17 holes down after the first leg, Haverhill always had an uphill struggle, and fought well to win by one hole on the day.
However Stowmarket’s dominance after the first leg gave them the overall win by 16 holes to hold the trophy for the next 12 months.
Haverhill enjoyed a very successful weekend in the County Hambro and Tolly matches, both played on Sunday, June 24. Haverhill hosted the Tolly fixture against Waldringfield, and by lunchtime Haverhill were comfortably ten holes up, as they capitalised on the home advantage.
The results from the morning matches were (Haverhill players first): Matt Farlie & Andy Gage won 8up against Ady Barham & Simon Wiggins; Daniel Bentley & Scott Turner lost 1down against Mick Pryke & James Creasey; Andy Craig & James Higham finished A/S against Mike Noble & Richard Langstone; Mike Elsworth & Mark Barrett won 3up against Chris Ward & Glen Davis.
Although the afternoon matches were closer, Haverhill consolidated their morning lead to win overall by 14 holes: Daniel Bentley & Scott Turner lost 4down against Chris Ward & Glen Davis; Matt Farlie & Andy Gage won 4up against Mike Noble & Richard Langston; Andy Craig & James Higham won 2up against Mike Pryke & James Creasey and Mike Elsworth; & Mark Barrett won 2up against Ady Barham & Simon Wiggins. Haverhill have been drawn at home against Stowmarket in the third round on July 22.
Haverhill’s Hambro Team were drawn away at Ipswich Golf Club (Purdis) for their second round match. At lunchtime Haverhill found themselves just three holes down, the results from the morning matches being (Haverhill players first): Andy Fish & Paul Bartlett won 1up against K Day & T Wright; Jack Bligh & Liam Merritt lost 7down to A Savage & M Jackman; Jack Warwick & Michael Perrett finished A/S against B Farthing & S Godbold; Dave Whiting & Lewis Whiting won 3up against P Barnard & M Lewis.

The afternoon results were (Haverhill players first): Andy Fish & Paul Bartlett won 8up against K Day & T Wright; Jack Bligh & Liam Merritt won 3up against A Savage & M Jackman; Jack Warwick & Michael Perrett finished A/S against B Farthing & S Godbold; Dave Whiting & Lewis Whiting finished A/S against P Barnard & M Lewis. Haverhill have been drawn away against Aldeburgh in their third round match on July 22.
Following the Tolly match on Sunday, June 24, The Bader Cup was played. The competition format was mixed greensome Stableford. The winners with a superb score of 40pts were Ted & Anna Fairhead.
In second place on countback were Gordon & Sheila Price with 37pts and in third place Terry & Gill Barke also with 37pts. The Fairheads qualified through to the Regional Final to be played at Ely City Golf Club on August 28, with a chance to win an all expenses paid golf break in Portugal for the National Final.
