Basic GCSE attainment rises in Suffolk again
Thursday, 25th August 2011.
Today provisional results for the county indicate that 56 per cent of Suffolk students have received five A*-C grades at GCSE including English and maths.
This figure is a four per cent increase on last year and demonstrates another year on year improvement.
Overall 7,600 students in Suffolk received their GCSE results today and for many these fantastic results reflect two years of intensive study.
Last year’s national average showed 53 per cent of students attaining the required standard. Ten Suffolk schools had increases of over five per cent on the previous year and five had over ten per cent.
Cllr Graham Newman, Suffolk County Council’s portfolio holder for children, schools and young people's services, said: “This four per cent rise demonstrates a significant improvement and illustrates the impact of the county’s strategy to raise attainment.
“Head teachers, teachers and students should be congratulated on their commitment and enthusiasm for learning that has resulted in this tremendous achievement.”
