Bail Is Extended For Dane
Thursday, 21st October 2004.
A councillor arrested in July on suspicion of making an indecent image of a child under 16 has had his police bail extended until January next year.
Mabon Dane, aged 35, answered bail to return to Haverhill Police Station on Monday, when he was re-bailed until January 24, 2005.
Coun Dane, founder of the Haverhill Representative Alliance, was arrested when police raided his home in Withersfield Road on July 26, but has strenuously protested his innocence.
Coun Dane said it was frustrating that the matter had not been resolved and felt more resources should be put into the unit investigating such allegations so that they were dealt with quicker.
Some of the items seized by police had been returned to him, but others such as his laptop were still retained.
"I have not been charged with anything and I am very confident that by January everything will be resolved and that will be the end of it.
I do think that it is unfair that people should be named until they are charged with anything and six months is too long to have this hanging over you, it is not acceptable," Coun Dane said.
