Award is something to shout about
Thursday, 28th February 2002.
Girls and ladies have been given the opportunity of specialist coaching with Haverhill United.
After a grant of £5,000 from the Awards for All Scheme, the club has been able to offer training under the guidance of Colchester United.
The coaching involves work on stamina, endurance and fitness, and a n hour’s football, and Haverhill United secretary Christine Harris said: “Their ball skills and competitiveness have all improved.”
Four players from the club have gone for trials with the England under-16 team and Arsenal.
Harris said: “The difference between us and other places is that the girls for not have to play football for use. We approached Colchester as a lot of girls attend their centre of excellence so we knew what their coaching was like.
“I think that is has helped that we have had qualified coaches who are not managers of the team.”
The sessions are held on the all-weather pitch at the Haverhill Leisure Centre on Thursdays between 6 pm and 9 pm.
