Attack appeal renewed
Monday, 25th November 2002.
POLICE investigating a male rape at Haverhill are renewing their appeal for witnesses, following a disappointing initial response.
A 30-year-old man was grabbed from behind and raped by at least two men as he walked between Jubilee Walk and the Brook Service Road, in the early hours of Wednesday morning after visiting a cashpoint.
Three men were seen in the area before the attack, and police are keen to trace them as they could have valuable information to help with their inquiries.
Det Insp Andy Henwood said they needed to speak to the three men urgently.
"Despite extensive media coverage of the attack, we have had a disappointing response to our appeals, receiving less than 10 calls," he said.
"We have now been able to take a statement from the victim, who is still extremely distressed, and continue to work with him in an attempt to piece together the events of Wednesday morning."
The three men were white, believed to be wearing black caps, and one was wearing a tartan scarf.
Any of them, or anyone else with information should contact Haverhill CID on (01284) 774475 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
