Anti-alchol posters win plaudits for pupils
Thursday, 26th October 2000.
SECTOR Commander Insp Mike Bacon paid a visit to Castle Hill Middle School in Haverhill to hand over prizes to two pupils who won a poster design competition.
Amy Wheeldon and Donna Laughlan, both aged 12, both received £25 gift vouchers for their poster aimed to warn youngsters about the dangers of under-age drinking. The poster will be displayed at off-licences and other outlets selling alcohol in the town.
The poster competition was organised by the local Substance Abuse Action Group and was open to all schools in the area.
Ren Masetti, chairman of the Haverhill Local Action Group, said national research showed most young people got alcohol at home either with or without parental consent.
The idea of the posters was for children to give the message to their parents to use alcohol responsibly.
Pupils at Castle Manor Upper School in Haverhill will now produce the posters to be distributed in shops around the town.
