Anger as foxes killed
Thursday, 23rd February 1995.
A woman who has found two dead foxes in her garden at Haverhill since Christmas believes someone must be poisoning them.
Mrs Jeanette Bax, lives at Broad Street, Haverhill, and her large garden backs on to the town's Railway Walk.
She found the second full-grown fox this week and believes it had been poisoned because there was no sign of injury or illness.
"I know there are foxes around here but to find two dead already this year, I think someone must be poisoning them. I am just hoping I might prick someone's conscience.
"I think it is sad, I feel really upset about it. The piece of land I own is registered as a wildlife site with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
"I know people think they are a pest and I have had my chickens killed, but they are a beautiful wild animal and they have a right to live. I will just have to put up a higher fence," Mrs Bax said.
A police spokesman said there was nothing to stop people putting down poison to control rodents on their own property, but they should take reasonable care to ensure children and pets did not come into contact with it.
