Andy edges battleof the champions

Haverhill Golf Club Champion of 2012, Dave Quinney, and winner of the four previous club championships, Andy Bareham, competed in a nail-biting final of Haverhill’s summer scratch match play competition, the Signpost Paints Cup.
Dave, who plays off scratch, got off to a fast start going two up, butr Andy, who plays off three, managed to get the match back to all square by the ninth.
The score remained level until Dave won the 17th to have the advantage on the 18th tee. However Andy squared the match by birdying the 18th, which he followed by birdying the first extra hole to clinch the trophy.

The Ladies Midweek Medal was played on Wednesday, October 3. Pat Wellstead continued her recent form to win by four shots with an excellent round of 101-33-68, reducing her handicap by two shots to 31.
In second place was Sally Price with 97-25-72 and in third place Sharon Parsonson with 109-34-75.
On October 6 the Ladies Saturday Medal was played. Mary Sail was the runaway winner with a commendable round of 89-16-73. In second place was Theresa Spittle with 110-29-81 and in third place Pauline Calmet with 106-16-82.
Haverhill hosted a Mixed match against Menzies on Sunday, October 7. In excellent conditions the matches were all very close, being decided on either the 17th or 18th. The visitors however, just had the edge to win overall 5½-4½.
