Andrew walks his way to medal
Thursday, 10th May 2001.
A KEEN speedwalker has scooped a bronze medal for his achievement in the inter-counties race-walking championships.
Andrew Graham, 11, who attends Chalkstone Middle School, Haverhill, was one of the youngest entrants in the 2000-metre race, which took place at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield on Saturday.
But he managed third place in the event and will now be competing in the national race-walking championships this weekend.
In March he won when representing Suffolk in the Southern Area Championships. He will go on to represent the South against the Midlands and the North in September.
Mick Graham, Andrew's father and coach, said: "I thought he was brilliant. You should be proud of winning any medal, and even more so when you're one of the youngest in the race."
