All-round hug for dieter granny Anne
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 5th April 2001.
ANNE Jones has delighted her seven-year-old granddaughter Siobhan by losing almost five stones in weight so the youngster can give her a proper cuddle.
Mrs Jones, 55, of Woodcock Close, Haverhill, said Siobhan was astounded to be able to get her arms right round her grandmother's waist again.
In just under nine months, Mrs Jones lost more than 66lb with the Weight Watchers Club in Haverhill.
Getting closer to Siobhan, as well as her other grandchildren Jade, 15, Riki, 13, and James, 11, has been the biggest plus for Mrs Jones.
Mrs Jones was widowed 23 years ago and left to bring up two children alone, after her husband was killed in a car accident while working in Saudi Arabia.
She works long hours as a carer for people with learning difficulties at Stourmead Close, in Kedington, and at homes on the Chalkstone Estate.
A sufferer from osteoarthritis, as well as problems with her foot and knee, Mrs Jones is often in pain and found her excess weight put a strain on her joints.
Now she is enjoying life to the full and intends to carry on attending meetings to keep her slim figure.
Mrs Jones said: "My chest is 100 per cent better and it is absolutely wonderful. I have had a lot of people who did not recognise me. It has been mainly by diet I have done it.
"I look at the fat content on everything and take my calculator out with me. I loved bread and butter, spread thickly, and cheeses like Stilton but, rather than have a tiny bit, I would sooner not have any at all now.
"I did lose weight before but I put it back so I am going to carry on with my class. They do give you a lot of support."
