An air ambulance was called and the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance responded, landing around 11.10am at the rear of AXA Insurance in the public car park.
One eyewitness said: "It was a good bit of airmanship getting into such a tight space with so many street lamps around."
The casualty was initially loaded into the land ambulance in the High Street and stabilised before being driven around to the back of AXA Insurance where the he was further treated by the emergency doctor for some 30 minutes before being transferred to the helicopter.
The casualty was then flown to Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he is believed to be recovering well.
