Advice on offer for over 60s to keep warm and well

Wednesday, 23rd January 2013.

Practical advice and support for keeping warm and well will be on offer at a Living It Up In West Suffolk event being held at Haverhill Arts Centre.

Living It Up In West Suffolk is aimed at those over 60, their family, friends and carers. It is being run by St Edmundsbury Borough Council along with a host of local organisations to help with a range of issues including interest-free loans for oil heating top ups, money management advice, cooking and exercise demonstrations and supply of home safety and energy products.

The event is from 10am to 2pm on Thursday, January 31. Refreshments are provided.

You can find out if you are eligible for financial assistance from Warm Homes, Healthy People, a scheme designed for people living in their own home, or one rented from a private landlord, and aimed in particular at the over 60s, households with a person with disabilities, families on low incomes, families with children and young people with learning disabilities.

Cllr Anne Gower, cabinet member for Haverhill, said: “For many residents, concerns about running up unmanageable heating bills may put them at risk in the cold weather.

"The Living it Up in West Suffolk event has information that can help people to stay warm and well through the winter months and beyond."

For those who cannot get to the event, there is also a special Winter Wellbeing helpline 08456 037686 to deal with enquiries.

Anyone who has a vulnerable relative or neighbour is urged to help them find out more about what support and assistance might be available to them by calling the helpline.
