Adoption agency seeks families from Haverhill

In support of National Adoption Week, Suffolk County Council’s Adoption Agency is making an appeal to people in Haverhill and across the county who may be interested in adopting a child.
Between November 1 and 7, Suffolk Adoption Agency will be holding general information events around the county, including one in Haverhill.
Information about the adoption process will be available along with information to help dispel myths around who can and cannot adopt.
Suffolk Adoption Agency is looking for families for children of all ages, from babies to older children, who may have waited a long time to find a permanent family.
The agency also needs families for sibling groups, children with disabilities, and black and minority ethnic children.
Last year Suffolk Adoption Agency placed 71 Suffolk children with adoptive families. Due to a local shortfall of adopters, 22 of these children were placed with adoptive families outside Suffolk.
Sally Stoker, head of adoption at Suffolk Adoption Agency said: “We believe that finding a permanent adoptive family locally is the best outcome for those children who sadly cannot live with their birth family.
"We are appealing for local people to consider changing the lives of local children. We want people to know that we have changed too.
"While the process still takes time, it is not as long as it used to be for most people. We also provide professional ongoing support both before and after adoption.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about adoption in Suffolk can visit one of the Suffolk Adoption Agency information stands during National Adoption Week.
The information stands will be in Haverhill on Friday, November 5, from 10am to 3pm at the Tesco superstore.
