A-Level students celebrate success

Anxious teenagers returned to school today to get their results after a summer of nail-biting and their hard work was rewarded with the region's best set of A-level results in the examination's 50th year.
The national results showed the overall pass rate for grades A to E went up by 0.7 per cent to 89.8 per cent, the 18th successive improvement, while the number of A grades achieved was up by 0.8 per cent to 18.6 per cent.
A gender breakdown showed girls out-performed their male classmates 0.8 per cent ahead at grade A and 1.9 per cent at grades A to E.
In Haverhilll, the overall pass rate at Castle Manor and Samuel Ward Upper School's Sixth Form was 85 per cent - up a litte on last year.
Catherine Cherry, of Castle Manor and Simon McConell of Samuel Ward each gained three A grades.
John Grinham, head of Castle Manor Sixth Form said: "We are very pleased with the increase. There are some excellent results and while some will be disappointed, everybody has got something."
