A level results show another improvement

Thursday, 15th August 2013.

Over 3,000 students in Suffolk received their A level results today and for the seventh year running, the proportion of students earning top grades in Suffolk has improved.

From the self-reported provisional results so far sent through to the county council from schools, this would seem to be another good year for post 16 students in Suffolk.

Suffolk schools appear to have performed above the national trend with 29 per cent of students in Suffolk reported to have earned higher grades (A*-A). Nationally, the proportion of A*-A grades is 26.3 per cent.

Castle Manor Academy in Haverhill had 66 per cent of A-level exams taken graded between A* and C - and 94 per cent of students passed their exams overall.

The school welcomed 55 year 13 pupils this year, an increase on the 32 in 2012, and 94 per cent of those who applied for university courses have had their places confirmed.

Samuel Ward Academy also had a successful results day with every student passing A-level exams.

They have reported 74 per cent of pupils scored between A* and C.

Cllr Lisa Chambers, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for education, skills and young people, said: "I'd like to offer my warmest congratulations to all students, especially those that have achieved the grades they need to secure a place in higher education, training or employment.

"For students to achieve such great results is testament to their hard work and that of the staff and governing bodies that do so much for them.

"Today's results make a fantastic contribution to our collective efforts to raise the bar on educational attainment in Suffolk.

"If we're to do the best by Suffolk's young people, improving attainment and employability has to be a top priority for everyone. I'm pleased that we're making good progress towards this goal."
