'Make website official'
Thursday, 7th October 1999.
A PLEA has been made for a town's web site, which has attracted 11,500 visitors since March, to be made official.
Jason Fitzpatrick, a 29-year-old electronics and software engineer, told members of the Haverhill Partnership Group that he had started up the Haverhill UK site in his spare time after setting up web sites for local companies through his Pure Energy Entertainments company.
The companies wanted a place locally for their sites to be seen and he had opened up the site to community groups and added news items from the Haverhill Weekly News.
Mr Fitzpatrick said the site was now attracting around 400 visitors a week and he was starting to receive e-mails from people who were complaining about council services.
"I would like to make it the official Haverhill website and hopefully, if we can get some funding, get people to help create it. It is a community site and open to anyone within reason," Mr Fitzpatrick said.
Gerry Kiernan, a member of Haverhill Town Council, said the council had considered setting up its own website and would talk to Mr Fitzpatrick to see if they could work together.
Dr Henry Tam, who chairs the Partnership Group, said he felt Haverhill UK was a very good development for the town and anyone who had not linked up to it should do so.
Anyone interested in an entry on the site should ring (01440) 707246, and it can be viewed at www.Haverhill-UK.com (link provided).
