'Green' scheme wins top award
Thursday, 26th October 2000.
AN INITIATIVE run by St Edmundsbury Borough Council to help save greenfield sites has won a national award.
The scheme involved young people in the issues surrounding empty properties, regeneration and homelessness.
It has been highly commended in the National Partnership Award 2000, organised by ROOM, the National Council for Housing and Planning.
A video was produced, offering insights into what people think about developing greenfield sites, the problems of wasted spaces and empty homes.
It is supported by a teacher's work book, covering aspects of the national curriculum for geography and science.
The video and work book were launched at Bury St Edmunds in May and have been sold to schools, colleges and local authorities nationwide.
The proceeds will to go to setting up an educational trust to develop further educational projects.
